Champlin is located in northern Hennepin County on the west bank of the Mississippi River about 17 miles northwest of Minneapolis. It is bounded by the Mississippi River on the east and north, Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove on the south, and Dayton and the Elm Creek Park on the west.
With over 300 acres of city parks, miles of walking and biking trails, a 5,400-acre regional park (Elm Creek Regional Park), and the Mississippi River, the recreational needs of Champlin’s residents are well served. Elm Creek is the largest suburban park in the Hennepin County Park system and provides hiking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, in-line skating, swimming and biking opportunities.
